Business for pleasure

We might be in the electronic gaming era, but it’s more like a fun game of Monopoly this business for pleasure of sport franchise ownership. The stakes are high, spending free, and visible worries few.

Despite the escalating fees for entry into the game, personal franchise ownership hasn’t been replaced by corporations. Of 121 big league professional sports franchises, only 15 have found their way into corporate hands. Most owners claim to be losing money which would explain takeover shyness of shareholder controlled companies. It’s nicer to think sole owners don’t want to sell because sports ownership is too much fun. A nice break from the normal business routine that brought them their wealth in the first place.

What are these businesses worth?

Unlike traditional industry, sport franchises derive their value from their ability to generate revenue. There are several reasons for this. Within a league, other owners

Goaltender mask – China CNC Machining Parts – Precision Fasteners

History
The first goaltender mask was a fiberglass fencing mask donned in February 1927 by Queen’s University netminder Elizabeth Graham, mainly to protect her teeth. In 1930, the first crude leather model of a mask (actually an american football “nose-guard”) was worn by Clint Benedict to protect his broken nose. After recovering from the injury, he abandoned the mask, never wearing one again in his career. At the 1936 Winter Olympics, Teiji Honma wore a crude mask, not dissimilar to the one worn by baseball catchers. The mask was made of leather, and had a wire cage which protected the face, as well as Honma’s large circular glasses.
It was not until 1959 that a goaltender wore a mask full-time. On November 1, 1959, in a game between the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL), Canadiens goaltender Jacques Plante was struck in the face by a shot from Andy Bathgate. Plante had previously worn his mask in practice, but coach Toe Blake

Stanley Cup Finals – Power Plays Give Penguins a Game 3 Victory

The Pittsburgh Penguins finally rallied together on Tuesday. Game 3 of their series against the Detroit Red Wings was a crucial one; in a startling repeat of last year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, the Penguins began this year’s playoffs by losing the first two games of the series. After such a shoddy performance, speculation grew that the Wings would sweep their ill-fated rivals and claim what would be their fifth Stanley Cup since 1997.

But, again shadowing last year’s final series, the Penguins managed to take Game 3, 4-2.

The win came as something of a shock. Not only were the Penguins up against one of the NHL’s strongest teams (the Red Wings have boasted an incredible regular season and an even better postseason), but Pittsburgh was feeble on the ice in the first two periods.

Granted, Penguins center Max Talbot did score the first point, his fifth in the postseason. However, in the nearly 11 minutes that followed, the Penguins were

Cuma looks to pick up where he left off

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — When you ask former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Guy Lapointe about a defensive prospect and his face lights up, you know you’ve touched on something special.

In this case, it’s Minnesota defenseman Tyler Cuma, the Wild’s first-round pick from 2008.

“What you notice about the kid right away is that he plays with a ton of poise. wholesale nhl jerseysHe has a great sense for the game and a willingness to compete,” said Lapointe, now the amateur scouting coordinator for the Wild. “To me, when you see a veteran coach like Jacques Lemaire keep a youngster like that to the final cuts with the Wild when he’s just 18, that just tells you that Tyler is something special.”

For Cuma, a 6-foot 2, 189-pound defenseman from Toronto via the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League, it was almost like he was in a “Twilight Zone” episode when you consider how few teen-agers make that huge jump from junior hockey to the NHL.
