Watch Black Jackets vs Blackhawks NHL 2009 Preview

Season Series: First of six meetings this season between Central Division rivals. The teams split last season’s series, with four of the games being decided in either overtime or a shootout. Each team won twice on its opponent’s home ice.

Big Story: It’s going to be a banner night at the United Center. For one, the Blackhawks are finally back in town, after the circus forced them on the road for an annual lengthy trip. Chicago won the first four games, stretching its winning streak to eight before back-to-back losses in Anaheim and Los Angeles. The team will also be debuting a new third jersey on Tuesday.

Team Scope:

Blue Jackets: There weren’t many teams in the League that needed a win more than Columbus, which returned home Monday from a five-game road trip of its own. Unlike the Blackhawks, the Blue

Crosby reaches 50 for first time- ties for NHL lead

Sidney Crosby put on a show of his own Sunday and nearly skated off with another scoring title. He settled for a share of his first goal championship.

For Philadelphia, the season will continue through at least one playoff round. The Rangers are done. A late-season surge fell a shootout short.

Both the Flyers and Rangers faced the same Game 7 reality on Sunday in Game 82 of the season. Win and you’re in. Lose and go home. Henrik Lundqvist starred for New York by making 46 saves through overtime, but he was beaten twice in the shootout and took a 2-1 loss.

“Both teams had to go through it, they are not going to whine about it. That’s how it is,” Rangers coach John Tortorella said. “When we got to that point we thought we had the advantage. No disrespect to their shooters, but with Henrik there we felt good.”

Philadelphia clinched the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference and became the NHL‘s last participant

The Washington Capitals are one of the premier hockey teams in the National Hockey League (NHL).  They are a professional men’s hockey team that plays in the Southeast Division and they are a part of the Eastern Conference in the NHL.  The team is based out of Washington D.C. and they play all of their home games in the Verizon Center that is located in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington.  They are owned by Ted Leonsis and he has brought the team some of their most notable players in Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green, Nicklas Backstrom, and Alex Semin. New Orleans Saints

History

Main article: History of the New Orleans Saints

Early history

The brainchild of local sports entrepreneur Dave Dixon, who also founded the Louisiana Superdome and the USFL, the Saints were actually secretly born in a backroom deal brought about by Congressman Hale Boggs, Senator Russell Long and NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle. The NFL needed congressional approval of the proposed AFL-NFL merger. Dixon and a local civic group had been seeking a NFL franchise for over 5 years, and had hosted record crowds to NFL exhibition games. To seal the merger, Rozelle arrived in New Orleans within a week, and announced on November 1, 1966 that the NFL officially had awarded the city of New Orleans an NFL franchise. Named for the great jazz song most identified with New Orleans “When the Saints Go Marching In,” the franchise was announced in a great coincidence on November 1st, which is the Catholic All Saints’ Day. New York City-A Sports Fan Paradise

New York City-A Sports Fan Paradise

New York City is most definitely a city that loves its sports and cheers for the home team. New York is probably the best represented city and state in this country when it comes to major league teams. I’ve never quite seen anything like it but I honestly can’t imagine a night when there isn’t some sort of major sporting event taking place somewhere in this great city.

The National Hockey League that almost wasn’t is back and going strong. New York is represented well by the Ranger’s who have made a wonderful deal this year to woo Shanahan away from the Red Wings. They play their home games at Madison Square Garden and have some of the most loyal fans. Even if you’re say from Detroit and visiting, and if the Rangers are playing at home then it’s the perfect opportunity (assuming you can get a ticket) to drop in and see how Shanahan is adjusting to life in the Big Apple and if he misses life back at the Joe.

Nhl Hockey: Canucks At Blackhawks – 8:30Pm Est

The Vancouver Canucks and the Chicago Blackhawks will both be trying to pick up a win on Friday night at 8:30pm EST when they battle at the United Center in a game that can be seen on RSNP and CSNC television. NHL odds have the Blackhawks listed as 155-moneyline favorites versus the Canucks, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5 OVER -110.

Ryan Kesler potted two goals to help the Canucks double the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 on Wednesday night as +140 underdogs in NHL odds. That game’s nine goals sailed OVER the posted over/under of 5.5 at online sportsbooks. Alex Burrows, Kyle Wellwood, Sami Salo, and Mikael Samuelsson added singles. It was a heros welcome in Vancouver as silver medal winner Ryan Kesler scored twice and the gold medal winning goalie Roberto Luongo made 28 saves to lift the Canucks to their second straight win.

“It was special. I always cherish playing in front of friends and family,” said Kesler after the game. Heading

8 Famous (Or Infamous) Fans Who Stood Out From The Crowd

1. Bobby Murcer’s Biggest Fan read full story

Our first story has a fairy-tale middle and a horrible ending. In August of ‘77, Bobby Murcer of the Cubs promised to hit a home run for terminally ill fan Scott Crull. That night, Murcer hit two of them. Pretty amazing, especially when you consider Murcer only hit nine homers the whole next season. But that’s not why Crull – a 12-year-old from Calumet City, Illinois, with bone cancer – makes this list.

Broadcasting the game nationally on ABC, Keith Jackson told the country how Murcer had fulfilled the dying boy’s last wish. Eyes watered, spines tingled. There was only one problem – nobody had ever told the boy he was dying. His parents were horrified. Three weeks later, Crull passed away.

2. The Good Luck Charmers

Every sport has its own strange traditions. I’d argue hockey’s “throwing an octopus on the ice for good luck” is the weirdest. Tossing the eight-tentacled

Nhl Hockey: Avalanche At Ducks Odds – 10:00Pm Est

The fans at Honda Center will be treated to a game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Anaheim Ducks when they take their seats on Wednesday night at 10:00pm EST in a game that can be seen on ALTI and FOX WEST. NHL hockey betting odds have the Ducks listed as 140-moneyline favorites against the Avalanche while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5. Chris Stewart put up a goal and an assist for Colorado in their 3-2 loss in NHL odds to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night. Detroit cashed as a -110 road pick ‘em to hand Colorado their second straight loss while the game played UNDER the 5.5-goal total set at online sportsbooks.

The Avalanche tied up the game until Kyle Quincey was called for a minor penalty that allowed Nicklas Lindstrom to score 58 seconds later. “I felt our energy level got better as the game went on,” Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said after the game. “We played a team tonight that was very desperate for points.” Heading into
